Despite the growing momentum of LibreOffice fork of OpenOffice, the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) is the volunteer developer community urgently to rally around OpenOffice Basic code as the canonical version of a package of open source software.

OpenOffice project is now officially Apache Podling, OpenOffice.org Basic code that was sent to Apache as the project advanced.

"There is plenty of room for some solution on the market," a statement from ASF read, adding that "this is the way to progress through the ASF, who owns the trademark and the official OpenOffice.org code base. This is our chance to be able to put together our talents towards the goal of cohesive and protect ecosystems project. "

Apache made the announcement on Sunday of the Foundation documents of the LibreOffice Conference, underway this week in Paris.

LibreOffice was formed in September 2010, when OpenOffice developers, then worry about Oracle's control of the codebase, began to document the basis for developing a separate version of the software.

(CBS/AP) BOSTON-Utah man was arrested Saturday after police said he viewed child pornography on his laptop in flights between Salt Lake City and Boston.

Grant Smith, 47, was sitting in first class on Delta flight when a fellow passenger allegedly saw the pictures on the computer and the flight crew told Smith. Passengers also reportedly called a family member and ask him to call the police.

Just after the plane landed at Logan Airport, Smith was greeted by state troopers who were asked to look at the computer. He obliged, and was arrested. Smith has been accused of having child pornography and is being held on $ 15,000 bail. He was charged Monday.

According to the Boston Globe, Smith is a professor at the University of Utah.

Microsoft on Monday replaced the head of the Windows Phone Division, which has struggled to gain traction in the mobile and device markets.

Windows Phone President Andy Lees moved to "new role working for me on the occasion of critical time focused on driving maximum impact in 2012 with a Windows Phone and Windows 7," Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer wrote in a memo to employees.

Taking over as head of the Windows Phone Division is Terry Myerson, corporate vice president who led the engineering work on the Windows Phone 7 and 7.5.

Myerson now will also be responsible for the construction of Windows phones, marketing, and other business functions, Ballmer said in the memo.

It is not clear whether the move is decreased or move laterally to Lees, and Ballmer's memo didn't say whether Lees and Myerson will have a new job title.
